EYFS CURRICULUM, PRINCIPLES & FRAMEWORK

At Jumeirah International Nurseries, we follow the British Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS). Our curriculum at JINS is a sequential, theme-based experience enhanced with special learning opportunities at each level. All classrooms and specialty teachers collaborate to create an authentic and meaningful learning experience that reaches across the curriculum and engages the whole child.

The guiding principles of the Nursery Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) which shape our learning programme are:

A Unique Child

Our staff keenly observe, monitor and understand your child’s development and learning, identifying all the child’s needs, requirements for additional support, inclusion, safety, health and well-being.

Positive Relationships

Our staff foster a sense of belonging in your child, and are sensitive and responsive to your child’s needs, feelings and interests. They also support and build your relationship with your child. We get to know you, your child and learn about the values, expectations and the factors that shape your lives at home and in your community.

Enabling Environments

Our staff provide a stimulating, extremely well-resourced learning environment to your child with rich learning opportunities. They also provide opportunities for you to be involved in your child’s development at the Nursery.

EYFS Curriculum

Our education programme takes into consideration the individual needs of every child allowing them to grow at their own pace. We encourage them to make decisions and share ideas, letting their imagination and interests take the lead.

Children learn most effectively when they are enjoying themselves and are having fun. Hence, we promote ‘Learning through Play’ as children of different ages and stages of development work towards different goals. Children play individually and as a part of a group which helps them develop self-confidence and social skills.

Our EYFS Curriculum

The curriculum is delivered through child-initiated and teacher-led activities. There are seven areas of learning that shape the educational programmes based on the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

3 Core Areas of Learning

The core areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.

Communication & Language

In this area of learning, children learn communication, speaking and listening skills and develop a love of stories, books, and skills for future reading and writing.

Physical Development

In this area of learning which is fundamental to everything young children do, children develop through play. We provide opportunities for children to be active and interactive and to develop their coordination, contact, movement and manipulation, for example, riding a toy tractor, organising the play farm, or rolling out some play dough.

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

In this area of learning which focusses on emotional wellbeing, children learn about who they are, how and where they fit in, and learn to feel good and confident about themselves. They also develop an understanding of and respect for others, social competence, and a willingness to learn.

As your child grows, we ensure that the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas of learning given below.

Literacy

In this area of learning, children are given access to a wide range of books and reading materials including short stories and poems to develop their interests within this area.

Mathematics

In this area of learning, children learn counting, sorting, matching, pairing, seeking patterns, making connections, working with shapes, space, volume, and developing appropriate mathematical vocabulary.

Understanding the world

In this area of learning, children develop crucial knowledge, skills and understanding which help them make sense of the world. This forms the foundation for later work in science, design and technology, geography, history, and ICT which they study in school.

Expressive Art & Design

In this area which is creative learning, children make connections between different things and people, through our incorporation of art, music, dance and movement (to music), role play and drama, and imaginative play.
